Johann Sebastian Guzman graduated from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in 2017. He graduated from the piano magnet program at Coral Reef Senior High School in 2013. Johann was a leading member of the Miami Children’s Chorus for eight seasons. In pursuit of a conducting career Johann has conducted orchestras in Europe and the Americas. He currently serves as Assistant Conductor for Palm Beach Symphony working under Maestro Ramón Tebar.
In a 2011 MCC interview Johann sheds some light on his experiences.
“You know what the best feeling is? Seeing someone smile while you are performing!” Johann has been a member of the Miami Children’s Chorus for seven years and in this time he has grown musically. “When I started, it used to be hard, and the more you practice the easier it gets.” Johann has also grown as a leader. He like many of our choristers, learns discipline and the respect for our art, in every rehearsal. When asked what the most difficult part of MCC is, Johann said, “ Now that I’m in high school, since I am in a lot of things, Time” For many kids the idea of a school course load, plus extra curricular activities, and the added pressures of MCC would be extremely challenging; and it is challenging, but this challenge helps our children develop essential life skills. When asked to give advice to up and coming and younger choristers Johann had this to say, “Take advantage of it…There are so many opportunities with MCC, and its fun!”
