Virginia Covarrubias

Dr. Virginia Covarrubias, a native of Mexico, has devoted her career to solo performance, collaborative piano and piano education. Her piano awards include 3rd prizewinner of the ”Manuel de Falla Piano Competition” at the National School of Music – UNAM in Mexico City, and 1st prizewinner of the “Chamber Music Honors Competition” at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Covarrubias holds a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the National School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Master’s degree in piano performance from the Longy School of Music, and a Doctoral degree (D.M.A) in collaborative piano and chamber music from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Her piano professors include: Guadalupe Parrondo, Maria Teresa Frenk, Robert Merfield, Paul Posnak and Ivan Davis (direct student of Vladimir Horowitz).

Currently, she serves as piano faculty and collaborative pianist at the Miami-Dade College in Miami, Florida. Her piano students have received prizes in piano competitions at the College and scholarships throughout the country. Dr. Covarrubias has been nominated for the Grammy’s Music Educator Award.
