Saturday rehearsals from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Role Summary

 


The Allegro Teaching Assistant position is a stipend-supported educational opportunity for an emerging music educator seeking hands-on experience working with choristers in grades 6–8. Under the mentorship of the Allegro Conductor and artistic staff, the Teaching Assistant supports rehearsals and performances while developing practical skills in music instruction, classroom management, conducting, and ensemble leadership. The experience includes opportunities to observe, assist, lead selected activities, receive feedback, and reflect on professional growth.

 


Role Responsibilities

 


Rehearsal and Chorister Support

  • Assist the Allegro Conductor with rehearsal preparation, instruction, classroom management, and chorister supervision.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, respectful, and productive learning environment appropriate for middle school choristers.
  • Build supportive relationships with choristers and encourage participation, confidence, responsibility, and ensemble collaboration.
  • Follow all organizational safety, youth-protection, attendance, and dismissal procedures.

 


Artistic and Educational Support

  • Assist with warmups, sectionals, music instruction, and other rehearsal activities under the guidance of the Allegro Conductor.
  • Support choristers through musical modeling, coaching, and individual or small-group assistance.
  • Lead selected instructional activities and conduct assigned repertoire with appropriate preparation and supervision.
  • Support the ensemble’s musical and educational goals, including developing vocal technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills.
  • Assist with auditions, evaluations, rehearsals, performances, and special events as assigned.

 


Communication and Professionalism

  • Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with the ensemble conductor and MCC staff.
  • Communicate proactively regarding absences, scheduling conflicts, chorister concerns, and other issues that may affect assigned responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate reliability, preparation, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and protect the confidentiality of choristers and families.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and supportive staff culture.

 


Professional Development

  • Observe and learn from the Allegro Conductor’s instructional, rehearsal-management, and conducting practices.
  • Participate in mentorship, training, and professional-development opportunities.
  • Meet with the Allegro Conductor as needed to prepare for assigned teaching and conducting responsibilities.
  • Receive, reflect on, and apply feedback from the Allegro Conductor and artistic staff.
  • Demonstrate increasing preparation, confidence, and independence throughout the program.

 


Schedule & Location

 


The Teaching Assistant will support assigned Saturday Allegro rehearsals in Coral Gables and should plan to arrive before rehearsal and remain afterward as needed to assist with chorister arrival, pickup, room setup, and reset.

 


Participation may also be required at additional rehearsals, performances, artistic planning meetings, and events throughout Miami. A season calendar will be provided.
